National Librarian’s Day Celebrated at PIM

National Librarians’ Day is observed on 12 August every year to commemorate the birth anniversary of Padmashri Dr S. R. Ranganathan (1892-1972), who is considered as father of library science in India. Dr. Ranganathan dedicated his entire life to library profession in India leaving a rich legacy. On 129th birth anniversary of Dr. S. R. Ranganathan, PIM Library celebrated National Librarian’s Day on 12th August 2021. The programme commenced with lighting of the lamp by the chief Guest Dr. Vinay Kumar Librarian, Poornaprajna College, Udupi. In his speech he stressed on the second law of library science i.e. “Every Reader His/hers Book” which means “books are for use of all” or “books for all”. It speaks of democratization of the library where every reader has the equal right to get the book of his/her interest. The Director of the Institute Dr. Bharath V. spoke on the need of in calculating reading habit among students and congratulated the librarian for organising the programme in spite of the current pandemic situation. Both teaching and nonteaching staff along with students offered floral tribute to Padmashree Dr. S R Ranganathan. Mr. Purushotham Gowda P C, Librarian – co-ordinate the program.
