PIM Students visit to Manipal Academy of Higher Education


As a part of curricula of Training and Development, the students who opted HR visited Manipal on 28 September 2019. Apart from normal routine classroom classical monologue, the students wanted a change. The visit started at 9.30 am at Manipal Museum of Anatomy and Pathology, opposite the main education building. 


Considered to be as one of the largest in Asia, the museum boasts of over 2000 specimens and samples of things anatomical, though not directly related to HR, students thought, knowing this is very important. 
PIM students made in depth analysis of each and every parts of human body, including the skulls of an elephant and whale and the long skeleton of a King Cobra.
After spending two hours at the museum, took some snaps in front of the museum and headed towards Diabetics Foot Clinic of Manipal Academy of Higher Education. Dr. Hrishikesh, Research Fellow of the Unit explained in detail the objective of healthy aging and efforts of Manipal Academy of Higher Education. Under the able guidance of Dr. Arun Maiya, Dean of the Institute,  the unit had research projects ongoing  and succeeded in creating a wealth of knowledge and improved the treatment. The Diabetic Clinic was rendering advanced neurological, musculoskeletal and vascular assessment services and also conservative management of diabetic foot care like Laser, pedicure, offloading footwear, footwear prescription and wound dressing. The students clarified many doubts and got entirely new insights about diabetics.PIM students exposed to Experience Theatre at Manipal. Edu. It was placed at manipal.edu building and students got a chance to explore Manipal through collection of videos. The virtual tour gave students a quick walk-through of the different colleges and information about different courses provided by the University. It included many images and videos beamed through 13 design projectors, nine plasma televisions and four iPads. The students got the information that the total cost of the project was Rs. 4 crores and designed by Eureka Enterprises, the show lasted for 20 minutes and was divided into various segments showcasing the various timelines. Many dignitaries like the President of India, Pranab Mukherjee visited the experience theatre. Our students felt, how parents can be attracted with this and the methods of developing positive outlook about an educational institution. Suresh K, Management Executive, Media and Information, Manipal Academy of Higher Education coordinated the visit.



 



Later, the students visited Marena, the indoor sports facility of Manipal. It is centally cooled sports complex at Manipal Academy of Higher Education. It is one of the largest and best equipped sports centres in the country and constructed keeping in view of long monsoon season of the region. Out students saw the facilities provided by Marena such as  jogging track with a rubberised surface, gymnasium with cardiovascular equipment, weights, strength training  and flexibility machines, squash courts, basketball court, badminton courts, cricket bowling facilities,  Some of the facilities provided include a jogging track with a rubberised surface; a gymnasium with cardiovascular equipment, weights, strength training and flexibility machines; four squash courts with a viewing gallery; a basketball court built to NBA specifications; five badminton courts; a playing area for futsal; a cricket bowling machine; a ssimulation games, sauna and steam bath and other facilities. Apart from the standard cardiovascular equipment like treadmills and steppers, weights and strength training equipment, there are also flexibility machines and a Kinesis circuit, the latest tool to improve stability, strength and flexibility and to train specific muscles for specific games. All the machines have heart rate, time, distance, calories, speed and incline monitoring systems with a Techno Gym System key reader, which measures and records all the physical activity a user completes during the day and motivates the user to reach his or her daily goals.
Dr. Sureshramana Mayya, Dean and Professor, Poornaprajna Institute of Management coordinated the visit and guided the students at the University. The visit ended with lunch at BQ at Manipal.
