Corporate Interaction Session on the topic "Financial Crisis in India With Special Reference to NBFC's" By Mr.Varun Rao Investment Analyst at Maybank Asset Management Company ltd., Singapore


'FIN-INSIGHTS' Finance Forum of PIM Organised Corporate Interaction Session on the topic "Financial Crisis in India with Special Reference to NBFC's. Mr.Varun Rao, Investment Analyst at Maybank Asset Management Company at Singapore was the Resource Person for the Session. The session was conducted on  10th August 2019.


The objective of the Finance Forum was to involve the students in developing knowledge  regarding Financial Crisis in India. Mr.Varun Rao, Investment Analyst at Maybank Asset Management, Singapore, who has extensive modelling and stock screening experience began the session with an introduction to NBFC (Non-Banking Financial Company) in India and highlighted the scope of the topic, its impact and structure. He quoted certain examples of NBFC’s in India which include insurance companies, money market funds, private equity firms etc.
Mr Varun Rao spoke about mutual funds its types, equity, mix. He highlighted the major differences between the banks and NBFC’s. The core topic for the day that was a financial crisis with special reference to NBFCs.  He explained how the NBFC’s stock is beaten down, and its impact on the automobile sector. The case of  Maruti Suzuki was explained in detail.  He then highlighted the reasons for the financial crisis in India and the link with demonetisation which is termed as note ban effect was explored in depth.  He said it is one of the important reasons which led NBFC’s to lend money aggressively.
The absence of financial discipline among the NBFCs was highlighted by the resource person.  He stressed about the NBFC’s ignoring to asset-liability mismatch.  He concluded the session with the quote by Warren buffet on debt/excess saying that “Only when the tide goes out to do you discover who’s been swimming naked”.
Later the platform was open for two way interaction. It was an interactive session were queries were answered briefly by the resource person Mr.Varun Rao.
The Programme was presided over by the Director of the institution Dr.Bharath V. Dean Sureshramana Mayya and all the faculty members of the institute actively participated in the discussion with the resource person.  Along with the Principal, faculty members and 2nd-year students of MBA, the faculty members of  Poornaprajna degree college and Post Graduate Centre, were also involved.  The Principal of PPC, Dr.Raghavendra Rao was instrumental in conducting this corporate interaction session.   The gathering was composed of MBA students, the faculty members of MBA as well as Mcom and the Principal of Poornaprajna college Dr Raghavendra Rao. 2nd year MBA students conducted the programme.  Ms Cannis Mathias welcomed the gathering and gave a brief introduction of the chief guest. Ms Shilpa was the master of ceremony of the guest lecture session.    The session ended with a hearty thanks and presenting of a memento to Mr.Varun Rao in appreciation for taking the time out to educate our students on the above topic. Deeksha of 2nd year MBA proposed a formal vote of thanks.
