Safe Environment is essential: Dr. AP Bhat

"Safe Environment is essential for our future generations. It is our responsibility to preserve the environment" Dr. A. P Bhat, Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Poornaprajna College, Udupi said at Prajna Hall of Poornaprajna Institute of Management. He was inaugurating the activities of the Eco Club of the Institute. He started his session with the help of live examples of clear sky stars, fantastic nature, solar system, planets like Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. He also explained the size of Jupiter which is 1300 times bigger than earth, that means that Jupiter is so big that over 1300 Earths could fit inside it, Saturn is 800 times bigger than earth, at the same time he dwelt in detail the beauty of Earth, which is amazing, we cannot find this beauty in any other planets.  He also explained the energy of nature, how beautiful this nature, the kindness of nature, the chemical variation, the rainy season, the summer season, winter season, the enormous size of sun, which is so large that about 1,300,000 planet Earths can fit inside of it, how earth was created, the small part of "Paka" or special composition of sun which paved the way for our mother Earth with the help of most appropriate examples. 

Dr. Bhat also explained in detail the atmosphere, the nature, the composition, the uniqueness of Himalayas, the trees, the capacity of sustaining life only in earth, the blanket of gases not only contains the air that we breathe but also protects us from the radiation emanating from the sun, how it warms the planet by day and cools it at night, the 480 kilometers thick atmosphere, how air pressure decreases with altitude, how our atmosphere prevents all the radiation from the sun with the help of beautiful slides. 

He asked the students about the concept of development. What is development? How old are our Solar System? How old are our Earth? 4.5 billion years? Hence, the composition of the Earth has already passed over 460 crore years. Overall these years, we created a lot of problems. Development is associated with the creation of excess carbon dioxide. Millions of tons of carbon dioxide are thrown into the earth every year. The object of ruthless exploitation overlooking he enrichment has led to an imbalance in all ecosystems that caused the current widespread ecological crises. 

Later Dr. Krishna Kothai, the Professor Emirates and Director of Research Centre of Poornaprajna Institute of Management explained in detail the development agenda of the modern world and how we disregard the requirements of preserving earth for future generations. With the help of vivid examples from  Development Index, he explained that when the whole world adopted the definition of developed nations to measure development, two scientists thought otherwise. Amartya Sen and Mehboob Ul Haq felt development was not only about economic indicators but also human development indicators such as life expectancy, number of years of schooling among others. They created an index named the Human Development Index which captures the development of human being in a country. He was also part of an initiative of measuring the Human Development Index of Government. Now the Human Development Index is adopted by almost all the countries of the world and the index measures from 0-1 with 1 being maximum development. Fro instance, Norway measures  highest in HDI with the value 0.955 and the Sub-Saharan Africa lowest with the average HDI value of 0.475

Dr. Bharath, Director of the Centre presided over the function, Miss Mahima welcomed the participants and guests, while Miss. Krithika proposed a vote of thanks. All the faculty and students participated in the programme.

ಪ್ರಕೃತಿಯ ಶ್ರೇಷ್ಠ ಕೊಡುಗೆಗಳ ಮಿತಿಮೀರಿದ ಬಳಕೆಯಿ0ದ ಮಾನವ ತನ್ನ ವಿನಾಶಕ್ಕೆ ತಾನೇ ಭಾಷ್ಯ ಬರೆಯುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾನೆ. ಅಬಿವೃದ್ಧಿ ಮ0ತ್ರವನ್ನು ಜಪಿಸುತ್ತಾ ಮನುಷ್ಯ ವಿನಾಶದ ಅ0ಚಿನೆಡೆಗೆ ಪಯಣ ಬೆಳೆಸಿದ್ದಾನೆ. ವಾತಾವರಣವನ್ನು ಅವಿರತವಾಗಿ ಹಾಳುಗೆಡವುತ್ತಾ, ಅಪರಿಮಿತ ಪ್ರಮಾಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಇ0ಗಾಲದ ಡೈಆಕ್ಸ್ೈಡನ್ನು ಆಗಸಕ್ಕೆ ಚೆಲ್ಲುತ್ತಾs ಶಬ್ದ-ವಾಯು ಮಾಲಿನ್ಯಗಳಿ0ದಾಗಿ ವಿನಾಶವನ್ನು ಅಪ್ಪಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾನೆಂದು, ಪೂರ್ಣಪ್ರಜ್ಞ ಕಾಲೇಜಿನ ಭೌತಶಾಸ್ತ್ರ ವಿಭಾಗದ ಮುಖ್ಯಸ್ಥರಾದ ಪೆÇ್ರ. ಎ. ಪಿ. ಭಟ್ ಅವರು ಅಭಿಪ್ರಾಯ ಪಟ್ಟರು. ಶ್ರೀಯುತರು ಪೂರ್ಣಪ್ರಜ್ಞ ಕಾಲೇಜ್ ಆಫ್ ಮ್ಯಾನೇಜ್‍ಮೆಂಟ್ (ಪಿ.ಐ.ಎಂ.)ನ ಇಕೋ ಕ್ಲಬ್ ಉಧ್ಘಾಟಿಸಿ ಮಾತಾನಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು.  

ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮದಲ್ಲಿ ಮುಖ್ಯ ಅತಿಥಿಯಾಗಿ ಪಾಲ್ಗೊಂಡಿದ್ದ ಪೆÇ್ರಫೆಸರ್ ಎಮಿರಿಟಸ್ ಡಾ. ಕೃಷ್ಣ ಕೊತಾಯ ಮಾತಾನಾಡಿ, ಶ್ರೇಷ್ಠ ಅರ್ಥಶಾಸ್ತ್ರಿಗಳಾದ ಪೆÇ್ರೀ. ಮೆಹಬೂಬ್ ಉಲ್ ಹಕ್ ಹಾಗೂ ಪೆÇ್ರೀ. ಅಮಾರ್ತ್ಯಸೇನ್ ಪ್ರಪ0ಚಕ್ಕೆ ಒದಗಿಸಿದ ಅಭಿವೃದ್ಧಿ ಬಗೆಗಿನ ಸಿದ್ದಾ0ತವನ್ನು ತಿಳಿಸಿದರು. ಅಭಿವೃದ್ಧಿಯ ಹೆಸರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ದೇಶದಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆಯುತ್ತಿರುವ ಆನಾಹುತಗಳ ಬಗೆಗೆ ಸೋದಾಹರೆಣೆಯೊಡನೆ ಚರ್ಚಿಸಿ, ಭೂತಾನ್ ದೇಶದಂತಹ ಪರಿಸರ ಸ್ನೇಹಿ ವಾತಾವರಣ ಜಗತ್ತನ್ನು ರಕ್ಷಿಸಬಹುದೆಂದು ಅಭಿಪ್ರಾಯಪಟ್ಟರು.
