Alumni Talk- GST-Opportunities and Challenges by Mr. Umesh Badhya , General Manager, Udaya Group of Industries ltd. Udupi.


'Alumni Talk' session was held at PIM on 5th March 2019 at Prajna Hall.  Mr. Umesh Badhya, the second batch student (20070-09) batch, was the resource person for the session.  He addressed the students on the topic "GST- Opportunities and Challenges".  Mr. Umesh Badhya is the General Manager of Udaya Group of Industries Ltd. Udupi.  He is also the Joint Secretary of the PIM Alumni Association, Udupi.  Mr. Badhya took time out of his busy schedule to be with PIM students and conducted a fruitful interactive session, educating the current students about the practical utility, complexities involved in the implementation of GST.  GST is no doubt a GOOD Tax but it is not 'SIMPLE' as projected he stated.  He explained with a lot of practical examples of how GST is beneficial to both manufacturers and Consumers. He made a comparison between the old system of taxation with multiple tax systems and the current system of GST.  GST will not be abolished and we will live with it more many more years . It is not just relevant for finance students, but the knowledge and application are equally important to Human Resource and Marketing Specialisation students. He illustrated the application of GST in HR and Marketing areas too with practical examples from the area of business.  Though GST is Good taxation system, is full of complexities and has resulted in the number of problems in implementation.  Efforts have to be made to ease the implementation of GST he stated.  Mr. Umesh Badhya urged the students to accumulate more knowledge and to study in depth about the different aspects of the business.

The programme began at 12pm with Ms.Priya Poojary  2nd year MBA student as the master of ceremony for the programme.  Priya gave a brief introduction of Mr. Badhya to the audience.  Umesh Badhya was initially selected in the campus recruitment drive of Vijaya Bank and was recruited as Assistant Manager.  He worked in the Bank for  3 years.  Later, he felt the bank job monotonous in nature and resigned from the bank job in search of challenging assignments which would utilize his potential to the best extent.  He soon was acquired by Udaya Group of Industries as Accounts Manager in the year 2013.  In 2016, he was promoted as 'General Manager' of Udaya group of Industries due to his sheer intelligence and hard work.  His entrepreneurial abilities have prompted him to start his own shop 'Upasana' which caters to the Pooja requirements.  Dr. Bharath recalled that Mr. Umesh as a student was humble sincere and was very good at extracurricular activities.  The skit directed and played by him along with his classmates is still fresh in the minds of all the teachers who taught him.  He was also very good at beating drums and is a member of a professional band of drummers.  As an alumnus just like his senior Mr.Girish Aithal, Mr. Badhya has a lot of love and affection towards PIM and he is here to discharge his responsibilities as alumnus said Dr. Bharath. The programme concluded with Ms. Nishitha Sadashiva Salian proposing vote of thanks.  The programme was attended by students of both first and second year MBA.
