Constitutional Awareness leads to Crime Free Society : Dr. Ravindranath Shanbhagh

Awareness about the constitutional procedures for dealing with crimes drastically brings down the number of crimes and results in a crime free society.  95% of the people commit crimes not with an intention to commit crime but out of emotional outbursts and mainly due to absence of  knowledge about the legal power which can result in punishment of the guilty said Dr. Ravindranath Shanbagh the president of Human Rights Protection Foundation and the Consumer Forum, Basrur at Poornaprajna Institute of Management on 29th Monday 2018.  He was addressing the students at Prajna Hall of the institution on the workshop organised by the Human Rights Cell of the Institute on the topic “Empowerment of the Weaker Sections of the Society”.

He gave a vivid description of the development of the definition of ‘Consumer rights’ under various legislations of the different courts of law over a period of time.  He explained the idea behind the evolution of ‘Consumer forum, Basrur’. The evolution of ‘ Balakedarara Vedike’ from  ‘Nagarika Hitarakashana Vedike’ to Nagarika Seva trust’ and finally to ‘consumer forum, Basrur’ was brought out in front of the audience by Dr.Shanbhagh  in his own spectacular way.  He also dealt with the differences between ‘Satyagraha’ and other forms of activism and stated that the ‘exploited’ person should fight his way out and the forum would support by providing every legal assistance and protection in the course of fighting for his or her rights.  He compared the working of his forum with that of the guidance given by Lord Krishna to Arjuna , 5000 years ago, where Lord Krishna motivates and inspires Arjuna to move ahead in the path of Kshaatra Dharma while providing all the required guidance in fighting against the ‘Kauravas. ‘ Dr. Bharath V , the Director of the Institute presided over the programme .

The programme was attended by  Dean of PIM Dr. Sureshramana Mayya  , teaching, non-teaching staff of the organisation  and all the  MBA students of PIM .  Mr. Sachin Shetty welcomed the chief guest and the gathering; Mr. Shyamsundar Bhat proposed the formal vote of thanks, while Ms. Pratheeksha Prabhu introduced the guest. Pratheeksha Prabhu also conducted the programme.  The programme coordinated by Dr. Bharathi Karanth, Associate Professor of PIM.
