Extension programme organised by the Human Rights Cell of PIM in association with Udupi zilla Kanakadasa Seva Samaja (Regd.)
Child trafficking is a serious problem that is
prevalent in India. It has been reported
by the various dependable sources that majority of India’s trafficking problem
is internal and those from the most disadvantaged social strata. It is the children of the poor and most
marginalised communities who are often trafficked to be forced into
labour. Lack of awareness among both the
children and the parents results in traffickers taking advantage of the
situations. Keeping this problem in mind
the Human Rights cell of PIM decided to create awareness among the children of
Kuruba community, which happens to be one of the under privileged sections of
the society about the child trafficking problem and its prevention
methods. Hence the programme was
organised around the central theme “Child Trafficking and Prevention”. Eighteen students of Human rights cell of
PIM, designed the content of programme for the beneficiaries. A drama was conducted by 5 students
replicating the situation of child trafficking and thereby creating awareness
about the problem. The children were
shown videos of the different children who were also put in to the problem. The ways of preventing the problem and the
legal solutions available were also explained by the members of human rights
cell of PIM to the children of Kuruba community who belong to grade 8th
to 10th, studying at Volakadu school.
